Humans have been on this planet for about 150 million years. For 149.5 million years (about 99.67% this existence), fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds (Uncooked and Unprocessed) were the food that people lived on. These foods were gathered in their seasons and consumed in their whole, raw, untampered form. Neither fire nor tools were used to prepare this food. Its hard to imagine a time span of 150 million years. To put it in another way, if the 150 million years are represented by a 50 year life-span, then for the first 49 years and 10 months the diet was fresh fruit and vegetables. Only during the last two months have meat, cooked foods and artificial foods been introduced. In these two months, its only in the last week that questions about being vegetarian or non-vegetarian have arisen. And it is only in the last couple of days (or 40 years in actuality) that non-vegetarianism has been defended in terms of nutrition (or proteins, Biz, Strength, brain power, etc). |

What happened ?
Food and the search for it, has shaped much of human evolution. The resultant feeding patterns have systematically divided the human race more of our working hours are spent in feeding - than in any other single activity - with 'specialists' looking after finding, growing, reaping, preparing and preserving food. A lot of this time is spent in choosing what to eat, and how to eat it.
Food not only plays a very important role in our biological life (growth) but it also extends to our emotional attachments, our social interactions and our environmental heritage. Our food habits have a deep impact on our personal and social health. What we eat & how we choose it, directly & forcefully determines how we grow & how we feel. And yet, there appears to be such a sea of confusing answers on what we should eat. Such a simple question really-but no two professionals can agree. Obviously all cannot be correct!
The answers are very simple, and common sense can readily provide the clues.
Food must be edible raw. (Palatability). Experiment after experiment shows that only a living food diet or raw foods will sustain health at the highest level.
Cooking as shown earlier has a history of only a few thousand years.
Food must contain no harmful substances or toxins. It should not interfere with the normal body processes. (Toxicity) E.g. mushrooms contain m.s.g. that is toxic or refined foods, including sugar, leave a toxic residue.
Fruits on the other hand are completely digested leaving no toxic residue.
Foods must be easy for digestion and assimilation. It must place no extra ordinary digestive burdens upon the body. (Digestibility). E.g. meats & Deep fried foods are a burden on the system, taking upto 72 hours to digest. Fruits take 20 mins.
Food should be ideally alkaline in its metabolic end products. Humans are among a class that relishes most alkaline foods. Our blood is slightly on the alkaline side. (Alkalinity) E.g. milk & dairy products leaves an acidic residue, while time leaves and alkaline residue.
The food must contain a rather broad range of nutrients & food factors in an utilisable form most foods in nature are well rounded in their nutrients, having a rather complete complement of vitamins, minerals, proteins and other food factors known and unknown of we disregard the water content of foods, most of them do not differ significantly in their nutrient content, though all vary. E.g. polished rice, bread, sugar, biscuits are fragmented foods, that do not contain the nutrient range, they are instead tampered lacking in most, if not all, essential nutrients.
Food must be seasonal and economical.
Food must be ecologically liable (i.e. it should not tax the earth in its production).
Thus, the objective in the selection of foods is to arrive at those that have the maximum biological valve for us.
Only fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds (in a sprouted form) meet all these criteria. That too, in a most admirable way. The best of foods and most ideally balanced diets are all irrelevant when NOT utilised by the body. They leave behind toxic wastes, which is the beginning of the chain of illness & disease. Disregarding the above factors, and following R. D. As (Recommended Dietary Allowances) have resulted in confusion and ill health.
Another reason for fruits & vegetables dominating the diet - is its water content. Our body is 70% water (like the earth!) which means that 70% of our foods should consist of fruits & vegetables.
There are 2 important reasons for this - Nourishment and Cleansing.
Water transports the nutrients in the food to all the body's cells and in turn also removes the toxic wastes. All the nutritional requirements for the body are found in fruits & vegetables. Without any need to count calories. Drinking & glasses of water is not the solution, because water does not carry the enzymes and other life preserving elements into the body. But the water content in fruits & vegetables does! We mostly tend to eat foods that do not cleanse, but instead pollute the body.
To be vibrantly & vigorously alive, in the best possible shape. We must eat foods that are alive.
Today's nutritionists bid us to read the lables on what we are buying.
The following salutary truth seems to escape them all. If any food bears a label listing the ingredients, you shouldn't be buying it!
As a role, anything with a lable has been processed, as well as preserved.
Fresh, whole foods need no labeling.
Spend your money on chasing fresh, whole fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds & sprouts.
Think about it. |
