At the very core of our civilization are natural resources. Even most cities were founded near water for its life-supporting
properties and its use in transportation. As a place to study natural resources, Nebraska offers a diverse ecological zone
that includes a sub-humid east and a semi-arid west. In addition, the state’s geologic history and central location in the
Midcontinent create a natural laboratory well suited for ecosystem science. The UNL School of Natural Resources helps students
to understand these resources and their roles in a complex ecological system that contributes mightily to the economy and
quality of life in Nebraska and the nation. In addition, the school has |

incorporated into its curriculum the technical skills
that are increasingly important in today's market, particularly cutting-edgeaining in computer-based
tools for analyzing spatial information known as geographic information systems (GIS). In addition, the School offers high-caliber
graduate programs taught by internationally recognized researchers and a commitment to outreach that emphasizes concrete service
to society and environment. The UNL School of Natural Resources gives its students a scientifically accurate view and a socially
responsible understanding of how our actions influence the use of natural resources and the quality of life.
